A Nigerian man has stirred significant outrage online after saying that he lost a newly won job because he refused to conduct the company’s opening prayer.

In a now-viral TikTok video, he said that he had only returned to work the day before and was requested to lead the morning prayer as the newest employee.

He graciously rejected, stating that he had deconstructed Christianity and no longer identified with it.

“I told them, no, I can’t, because I had already deconstructed from Christianity, and I don’t believe in all that,” he said.

He stated that his statement elicited odd stares from colleagues, but he didn’t give it any thought until the next day.

When he arrived at work, he said he was told to check his email, where he allegedly discovered that his job was terminated.

The guy expressed dissatisfaction and questioned whether the judgement reflected Christian ideals, claiming that such treatment would dissuade anyone considering returning to the church.

“I’ve been sad because I don’t understand. Is that even Christ-like behavior? Even if I had wanted to go back into Christianity, with this attitude, do they think one will? It’s actually crazy. I have the degree and skills and am honestly fed up,” he added.

The event has sparked a controversy on social media, with many users questioning whether religious beliefs should impact work decisions.
