A Nigerian woman has sparked debate online after recounting a troubling encounter that resulted in the end of her relationship.

The woman who commented on X described how a familial incident altered her opinion of her then-partner and his relatives.

According to her post, the event occurred at a family gathering, when her partner’s elder brother allegedly assaulted his wife.

The woman stated that her wife had accidently stepped on him while carrying a tray of glasses to the dining table.

Read what she wrote below;

“His elder bro slapped his wife, who’d accidentally stepped on him as she was bringing a tray of glasses to the dining table.”

She went on to say that what startled her the most was not the slap itself, but the entire family’s reaction.

“I was surprised that the whole family blamed the lady for not being careful even after being embarrassed before the visitor (me),” she said.

The message received extra attention as another social media user enquired whether she had left the relationship immediately.

Responding, the woman stated that she confronted her spouse about the incident and the family’s reaction.

“No, I didn’t. I asked my partner by then (ex) why nobody among his family members considered that mistakes happen? And why was everybody blaming the victim instead of the aggressor?” she wrote.

She added that her partner’s reaction did not address her concerns, which influenced her decision.

“His response sidelined, and that was enough for me to end the relationship,” she concluded.
