A Nigerian mother has sparked discussion online after confronting her 12-year-old daughter over alleged disobedience, social media use and what she described as disrespect.
The mother explained that she bought her daughter a phone with the specific instruction that it should only be used for WhatsApp. However, she reportedly took the device away after discovering that the girl had downloaded TikTok despite her warning.
Mother Raises Concern Over Social Media Use
The woman said part of her concern was protecting her daughter from inappropriate interactions online, particularly potential contact from adult men through social media platforms.
She also addressed what she described as her daughter’s tendency to compare her lifestyle with that of other children.
Mother Speaks About Financial Limitations
The woman explained that although she may not be able to provide her daughter with everything other children have, she believes she has always done her best for her.
She said:
“I can’t promise to give you fun and happiness like other kids because we cannot leave above our means. But I have never been wicked to you and you know it.”
The mother also reminded her daughter of the sacrifices she had made for her and stressed that she expected her instructions to be respected while the girl remained under her care.
She added:
“As far as you’re under my roof, you’ll take instructions if not we will go down together.”
Her comments have sparked discussions online about parenting, discipline, children’s access to social media and the challenges parents face when trying to protect young teenagers in the digital age.
