“I never knew the free meals came with expectations” — Man shares NYSC story

A man has sparked reactions online after sharing an experience from his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year involving his landlady and her daughter.

According to him, he rented an apartment during his service year in a house occupied by his landlady and her adult daughter.

He said the daughter frequently brought him meals, a gesture he initially viewed as simple kindness.

However, he later began noticing what he believed were subtle signs that suggested there may have been more to the attention he was receiving.

The former corps member recalled that the daughter often visited his apartment and stayed late watching television with him. Despite the frequent visits, he noted that his landlady never objected or expressed concern.

To make his relationship status clear, he decided to invite his then-girlfriend, who is now his wife, to visit him.

Narrating his experience, he said:

“I started noticing signs. The daughter would come over to my place, sit down, and watch TV with me till late, and the mother never complained. Not once”

The story has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with users debating whether the landlady and her daughter had romantic intentions or whether the situation may have been misinterpreted.

Others shared similar experiences, while some suggested that the change in attitude following his girlfriend’s visit may have indicated disappointment on the part of one or both parties.
