“I don’t know why anytime Nigeria makes progress, it angers Peter Obi” — Daniel Bwala

Senior presidential adviser Daniel Bwala has taken a shot at Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of resisting critical changes enacted by President Bola Tinubu despite earlier supporting similar measures.

Bwala, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, made the remarks in a sharply worded message posted on social media, challenging Obi’s critique of the administration’s economic and governance initiatives.

According to Bwala, Obi’s objections to several of the Federal Government’s policies demonstrate inconsistency, adding that the former Anambra governor supported for similar steps prior to the 2023 presidential election.

“I don’t know why anytime Nigeria makes progress, it angers Peter Obi. Why? It is the same Nigeria he is seeking to govern in his wild goose chase,” Bwala said.

He further stated, “Before the 2023 elections, he said he will remove subsidy; we did and now he says he will not. He said he will create state police; we did, he is saying he will not.”

The presidential adviser further alleged that Obi originally backed the unification of the foreign exchange market but has since distanced himself from the proposal.

He said he will unify the foreign exchange; we did and now he is saying he will not. It seems he doesn’t even know what he plans for Nigeria,” Bwala added.

The latest remarks add to the growing interchange of attacks between members of President Tinubu’s administration and Peter Obi, who has remained a key opposition figure since the 2023 presidential election.

Obi has regularly challenged several of the government’s economic policies, notably those affecting the cost of living and the well-being of ordinary Nigerians.

However, Bwala’s remarks indicate that the Presidency feels the former presidential candidate has modified his stance on several critical policy issues.
