A Nigerian business owner defended offering a monthly pay of ₦40,000 for a sales rep position, sparking furious reactions online. In response to the reaction, she expressed surprise that people were dragging her over compensation, saying that the work is not as difficult as critics make it appear.
In a viral TikTok video tweeted by @timmy_ally, she emphasised that the duty required little work and can be resumed Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The primary responsibilities include sitting at the shop, handling deliveries on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and dropping off products in Ikeja.
She also stated that transportation will be supplied, emphasising that the employee would not be required to use their own money for errands.
The proprietor further stated that the shop rarely receives walk-in customers. In her words:
“In the last three months, I can count how many people walked in to buy. My customers are online. I pack like 10 orders daily, all online.”
Despite being a business owner, she claims not to pay herself more than ₦40,000 each month.
She ended with a harsh statement that has subsequently gone viral:
“Some of you will go and work with Dangote. It’s not me. I don’t pass my power. I beg.”
The post has continued to generate mixed reactions online. One commentator wrote, “₦40k for one month is wild,” while another argued, “People forget that small businesses are struggling too.”
