Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has revealed how he believes he played a significant role in helping his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, secure victory in the just concluded Osun State gubernatorial election.

Speaking during an interview with News Central on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the singer reflected on the election and the political forces he claimed were working against his family.

According to Davido, the election was a major battle involving powerful political figures and individuals with access to significant government resources. However, he said that despite the influence and resources allegedly deployed by his opponents, he was able to make an impact largely through the use of his mobile phone and his social media influence.

Davido described the situation as a contest between his influence and the combined strength of several powerful politicians. He claimed that he faced 17 governors who had access to government machinery, security personnel, financial resources and other forms of political influence.

In his words, “I defeated 17 Governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions I defeated them with just a phone.”

The singer’s statement highlights the growing influence of social media and celebrity personalities in Nigerian politics. Davido has consistently used his large online following to express his political opinions and support members of his family, particularly his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.

By saying that he achieved the feat with “just a phone,” Davido appeared to emphasize the power of communication and digital platforms in modern political campaigns.
