How I found out my 70-year-old father was getting married in two weeks on Facebook — Lady shares

A Nigerian lady has expressed her disappointment after discovering that her 70-year-old father is set to marry a 35-year-old woman.

The woman said she only discovered the wedding plans through Facebook, despite her mother reportedly still being married to her father.

Recounting how she discovered the news, the lady said her father did not call or inform her about the upcoming wedding.

“You know how as a teenager you tell everybody who cared to listen you didn’t want to marry somebody who wasn’t like your dad?” she said.

“Oh well, I’d like to formally issue a public retraction of that statement because guess how I knew my father was getting married in two weeks? Facebook.”

She added: “A Facebook post sent to me by my friend. Not a phone call, not a family meeting, but Facebook.”

According to the woman, the bride is 35 years old, making her half her father’s age.

“And guess who the lucky bride is? A girl half his age,” she said.

The lady explained that her father was once her favourite person and someone she considered a role model.

“This guy used to be my favourite person in the whole world. He was my standard for everything,” she said.

“If you asked me who my superhero was, it was him. No competition. He was the blueprint.”

However, she said the situation has left her deeply hurt, particularly because of her perception of her father and concern for her mother.

“And it hurts. It hurts so bad because I know my mum is an incredible woman,” she said.

“She may not be perfect, nobody is, but that woman held us together.”

The woman praised her mother for supporting the family during difficult periods.

“That woman carried us on her back for several years when things were tough,” she said.

“But the second my dad got blessed and gained some ground, suddenly my mum wasn’t enough anymore.”

She also reflected on her previous admiration for her father and said the situation had changed the way she viewed him.

“So yeah, if you ever heard me say I wanted somebody like my dad, please delete it from your memory,” she said.

“The man who raised me was impeccably great. But this man, I don’t know him.”

The lady concluded by acknowledging her father’s reported wedding date.

“You might as well wish him well on the 10th of September,” she said.

“I’ll be right here minding my business.”
