“How can you expect her to live with her husband’s grave” – Lady defends Toluwanisings’ widow amid burial dispute

A Nigerian lady has come to the defence of the widow of late gospel singer Toluwanisings amid criticism over her reported opposition to burying her husband inside their home.

In a Facebook post, the young woman urged Nigerians to let the grieving widow mourn her husband without attacking her over her preference for his burial arrangements.

She argued that the widow’s objection to having her husband buried in the house did not mean she did not love him, noting that the couple had two children together.

The woman expressed concern over the backlash against the widow, saying people should be more considerate of her feelings following the loss of her husband.

“Nigerians, please give me one good reason you’re attacking this woman while she’s still mourning her husband,” she wrote.

She further noted that the widow is only 31 and should not be expected to live in perpetual mourning, adding that opting for a cemetery burial does not mean she loved the late singer any less.

The woman also wondered how the widow would manage to live and sleep in the same compound where her husband was buried.

Responding to claims by some social media users that the widow might be planning to sell the house, she urged them to think about the couple’s children before jumping to such conclusions.

She questioned why anyone would level such accusations against the grieving woman while she was still coming to terms with her husband’s death.

She also insisted that no one could ever take Toluwanisings’ place in the widow’s life, stressing that her pain would not just fade away.

The woman went on to use the controversy as a lesson, encouraging Nigerians to prepare their wills and make funeral plans while still alive.

She advised people to put their wishes in writing, including where they want to be buried, saying this could help avoid disputes among surviving family members.

She described Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi as a fitting final resting place for Toluwanisings.

Her comments come against the backdrop of reports of a disagreement between the singer’s father and his widow over his burial place.

The father was said to want his son buried in the house he built, while the widow reportedly resisted the idea of living in a house where her husband was buried. The father also proposed taking the singer to their village to be buried beside his late mother.

Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on October 14, 2026. The reported burial disagreement has since divided opinion online, with some users backing the father’s wishes and others standing with the widow.
