Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has recounted the unusual reason his late uncle decided to marry three wives, revealing that the man believed having multiple wives would prevent them from conspiring against him.

The iconic actor shared the story during an interview with comedian Isbae U on the online show Curiosity Made Me Ask.

According to Pete, his uncle initially married one woman before later taking a second wife and eventually a third.

Curious about the decision, Pete said he asked his uncle why he chose to have three wives.

The actor explained that his uncle believed the three women could not successfully conspire against him because at least one of them would eventually reveal what the other two were discussing.

In Pete’s words:

“He said there was no way they would all conspire against him at the same time. No. That when two conspire against him, the other one would come and tell him what they are saying.

“Then he said he’s now comfortable, that he balanced now. He’s fully wifed. Not long after, he passed. I won’t advise a man to take more than one wife.”

Pete Edochie rejects polygamy for himself

Pete’s account highlighted his uncle’s unconventional reasoning for entering a polygamous marriage and his belief that having three wives would prevent them from forming a united front against him.

However, after recounting the humorous experience, the veteran actor made his own position clear, saying he would not advise men to marry more than one wife.

The story has since drawn attention to the different views surrounding polygamy, relationships and the dynamics that can arise in a multiple-wife household.
