President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the difficulty caused by his administration’s economic reforms, claiming that he has personally felt the effects of the policies.

Tinubu made the comments on Sunday, when accepting the All Progressives Congress’ presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

Addressing party leaders and supporters at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, the president stated that the reforms implemented by his government were important, notwithstanding the hardships Nigerians are enduring.

According to him, the process of reconstructing the country has been difficult for both citizens and him.

He said: “I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you lost sleep, I’ve lost some too. If you’ve lost weight, I’ve lost some too.”

Tinubu stated that he remains committed to carrying out the responsibilities of leadership because he willingly sought the office.

He added: “But I’ve always remembered one thing: in 2022, I asked for this job. You all supported me and I got it. So I must do it.”

He said: “I accept with profound humility and gratitude the nomination of our great party, the APC, to stand again as your presidential candidate in the 2027 election.”

Tinubu said that he followed the primary election process after voting in Lagos, saying he was impressed by the turnout of supporters across the country.

According to him, the peaceful nature of the exercise demonstrated progress in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He said: “I was glued to the television after voting. I saw the mammoth crowd in Kano and Kaduna, the city boy walking the streets of Calabar.”
