Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has sharply criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the country’s deteriorating security situation.

During an interview with News Central, Obasanjo stated that any government that is unable to protect its citizens’ lives and property has no reason to continue in power.

The former Nigerian leader was responding to the recent statewide spike in insecurity, which has resulted in the deaths of several residents and the kidnapping of several others.

 “Let me tell you, the government that cannot give security of life and property of its citizen has no right of existence,” he said.

Obasanjo also faulted members of the National Assembly of Nigeria over issues surrounding lawmakers determining their own salaries and allowances.

“The elected members of our National Assembly have no right to fix their own salary and their own emolument,” he added.

“It’s not in our constitution for them to do that. It’s the revenue mobilization and allocation commission that should do it,” he said.
