A viral film spreading on social media has prompted new talks about governance, accountability, and public expectations ahead of Nigeria’s next election cycle.
In the video, a guy offers a direct message to political leaders, telling them not to take citizens for granted as elections approach.
His statements, which have gained popularity online, reflect rising dissatisfaction among many Nigerians with unfulfilled promises and inadequate infrastructure.
The speaker emphasised that, with elections approaching in about a year, legislators must return to their areas and begin serious development work rather than relying on short-term incentives.
Read what he said below:
“Election is one year from now, about a year from now, if you have been taking the people for granted go back and walk.”
He went on to accuse some leaders of misusing public cash and urged them to return the money for community development.
According to him, cash supposedly held in offshore accounts should be returned and invested in local areas.
“The money you stole that you’ve kept in offshore account repatriate them back to the country take them to your village and walk,” he added.
The individual also condemned what he saw as excessive expenditure on luxury residences in big cities such as Abuja and Lagos.
He believed that public officials should promote grassroots development above owning several estates.
“The estate you are buying in Abuja and Lagos, you will not be needing a lot of it. Take that money, sell it… Take the money back home and work for your people,” he said.
A significant focus of the documentary was his harsh condemnation of what many Nigerians refer to as “stomach infrastructure” – the practice of providing food instead of promoting long-term development.
“Rice will not cut it. Original sativa. We are now running a sativatocrazy, where all problems are solved by rice,” he stated.
He continued by listing critical areas where citizens expect real progress:
“Give me roads, you bring rice. Give me school, you bring rice. Give me education, you bring rice. Give me healthcare, you bring rice. Help me secure the border, secure the country, you bring rice.”
