Footballer Ihotu John Rebecca kidnapped on way home, bandits demand ₦20m ransom

Following allegations that football player Ihotu John Rebecca has been abducted and that her kidnappers are purportedly demanding ₦20 million for her release, the Nigerian sports community is in a state of fear.

Rebecca, a member of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership’s Oyo State-based Pacesetter Queens FC, was allegedly kidnapped while returning home along the Benin Motorway.

Fans demanded immediate action as the unsettling revelation spread on social media, where pictures of the player wearing her team jersey were extensively circulated.

Unknown gunmen reportedly stopped the car she was in and drove her to an unidentified location.

According to sources, the abductors have contacted her family and are requesting a ransom of ₦20 million.

Authorities have not yet issued an official briefing, and details on the precise circumstances are yet unknown.
