A flight attendant working for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has reportedly been hospitalized in Amsterdam with a suspected hantavirus infection after allegedly coming into contact with a passenger linked to the outbreak aboard the MV Hondius.

According to reports, the unidentified stewardess was placed in isolation on Wednesday, May 6, after developing mild symptoms. Health officials said she had briefly interacted with an elderly Dutch passenger who was considered too ill to continue a flight and later collapsed at the airport before dy!ng in hospital.

The 69-year-old woman had reportedly been evacuated from the cruise ship in South Africa after her 70-year-old husband d!ed during the outbreak onboard. She had been transferred to Johannesburg on April 25 in preparation for medical treatment back in the Netherlands.

A spokesperson for KLM stated that the woman boarded the aircraft briefly but was removed because of her medical condition before the flight departed. Dutch health authorities are now reportedly contacting passengers who were on the same flight.

So far, three d3aths — involving the Dutch couple and a German national — have been linked to the outbreak aboard the expedition vessel.
