FIFA sacks senior executive who criticised Infantino

Football’s world governing body, FIFA, has confirmed the departure of its Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour, bringing an abrupt end to the tenure of the senior executive who had previously been part of Gianni Infantino’s inner circle.

A FIFA spokesperson confirmed that Lamour’s working relationship with the organisation ended on August 17, 2026, thanking him for his two years of service and wishing him well in his future endeavours.

Lamour joined FIFA’s senior leadership team in November 2024 after previously working on Infantino’s successful campaign to become FIFA president in 2016.

His departure comes amid growing opposition to Infantino’s proposed commercial venture, which would reportedly include some of FIFA’s most valuable assets, including rights connected to the World Cup and other major tournaments.

The proposed subsidiary, reportedly valued by FIFA at around $20 billion, was expected to offer up to a 20 percent stake to private equity investors in a move that could raise approximately $4.2 billion.

Lamour emerged as one of the most outspoken internal critics of the proposal last month. He accused FIFA staff of being misled over the plan and reportedly described the project as being driven by “one person.”

He also stressed that FIFA’s responsibility should be to serve football rather than the personal interests of an individual.

Lamour’s criticism came shortly after the resignation of Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to Infantino, who also opposed the proposal and described it as “a bad deal for football.”

Following the growing resistance, Infantino eventually withdrew the controversial proposal. FIFA, however, did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding Lamour’s departure.
