The Cross River State Police Command has arrested Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme, 39, over allegations of impersonation, obtaining money by false pretence, and the unlawful use of medical equipment.

The suspect was apprehended by officers attached to the Uwanse Division in Calabar South following a complaint filed by Mrs. Edemawan Samuel, 45. She alleged that Ekpeme falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and collected ₦500,000 from her after promising to secure employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect used the false representation to deceive the complainant into parting with the money. Officers also recovered exhibits believed to be connected to the alleged offences during the investigation.

Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Akata, said the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Akata disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case and establish whether there are other victims.

She added that the suspect will be charged to court if sufficient evidence is established at the conclusion of the investigation.

The police also assured members of the public that efforts are underway to uncover the full extent of the suspect’s alleged activities, identify any accomplices, and provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
