FAAN bans cash payments at all airport gates, parking areas and lounges from March 1 2026

Cash payments will no longer be accepted at any of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN) pay points across the country as of Sunday, March 1, 2026.

This represents a significant change in the way transactions are processed at airports nationwide.

The new policy, according to FAAN, is a component of its “Go Cashless” campaign, which aims to make all facilities under FAAN management make payments more quickly, securely, and entirely online.

All travellers and airport guests will now have to pay digitally at both domestic and international airports, the authorities announced in a statement on Friday.

This covers admission via access gates, parking costs at lots, and fees for executive or VIP lounges.

“In line with the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria, effective March 1st, 2026, cash will no longer be accepted at any FAAN pay point,” FAAN said.

Travellers were advised to get ready for digital transactions at all airports across the country.

In order to make speedy payments utilising a “tap-and-go” method, travellers are encouraged to pick up their Go Cashless cards at specified pick-up locations within terminals, such as entrance gates and lounges. Prior to the deadline, FAAN has also begun distributing these cards.

The program is in line with the Federal Government’s and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s larger cashless agenda, which aims to decrease the need for physical currency, improve tax transparency, and cut down on waits at major airports.

The action comes after previous FAAN digital system pilots at significant hubs including Murtala Muhammed International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where cashless transactions have already been gradually implemented.

Travellers were reassured by the authorities that the cashless method is safe and designed to increase convenience.

Travellers with enquiries can check out further information on FAAN’s official website, http://www.faan.ng, or stop by any FAAN information desk at the airports.
