A Nigerian guy has described a traumatic event in which he went to the airport with his fiancée and heard her mother say something that fundamentally altered his perception of their relationship.
He claimed that in an effort to make one final memory with his lover before she left for Canada, he had gone to see her off.
But as they were at the airport, her mother went to her daughter and said something that ruined the moment and devastated him.
Speaking in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he said:
“Imagine following your girlfriend to the airport as she’s leaving for Canada, and just as you’re about to create one last memory together before she departs, her mum said, ‘My daughter, make sure you don’t come back home without a husband.’”
The man said that the statement made him wonder where he really stood in his girlfriend’s future, but he did not disclose what transpired later or whether the relationship survived the episode.
Since then, his story has elicited conflicting responses on social media. While some people expressed sympathy for him, others contended that the mother’s remark might have been innocuous advise or only represented her aspirations for her daughter’s future.
