The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reportedly outlawed cash bouquets, labelling them as illegal and charging them with offences such as defacing or tampering with naira notes.
The change comes just days before Valentine’s Day, leaving many lovers looking for other methods to show their love.
Under the CBN Act, anyone caught tampering with national currency, including using money to manufacture flowers, faces a minimum of six months in prison or a ₦50,000 fine.
Authorities indicated that the measure is intended to defend the naira’s integrity and prevent misuse.
The bank has asked Nigerians to avoid using cash for bouquets and to report any irregularities.
Enforcement agencies are anticipated to ramp up their efforts nationally, making it perilous for anyone planning to provide cash this Valentine’s Day.
The revelation generated comments online, with people flocking to social media to express their feelings.
Many people joked about using flowers or chocolates instead of cash bouquets.
