A Nigerian businessman expressed his shock after a man allegedly asked him for money so he could take a second wife.
According to the businessman’s account of the encounter, the man informed him that he had used his last transportation fee from Katsina to obtain funds for the proposed marriage.
“Imagine today somebody came to me, he told me he used his last card from Katsina to come and beg me for money so he can marry a second wife. Me do I have a first wife,” he said.
Questioning the man’s priorities, he added, “If you are not financially buoyant why marry a second wife. If you cannot take care of your responsibilities is it by force.”
The entrepreneur also voiced his worries about what he called “misplaced priorities” among certain young people who are looking for financial assistance.
“A lot of youths come to me for money, and when you ask them what they want to use it for, they’d want to use it for something that isn’t important. I no be federal government, I no be NGO. I’m a businessman. And I support small businesses that come my way,” he stated.
