African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, have come under fire from Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, after Amaechi made a claim regarding Tinubu’s economic policies.
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, recently claimed that it was challenging for him to purchase medications for his mother prior to her passing because of the Tinubu administration’s rising drug prices. In an interview with Politics Today on Channels Television, he made the assertion.
The former governor insisted that although his mother was in good health prior to Tinubu taking office, the cost of her medication eventually became prohibitive.
In response, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike accused Amaechi of bringing the matter into political disputes and chastised him for attributing his mother’s passing to Tinubu’s policies.
After that, Onanuga commented on the controversy on X, challenging Amaechi’s political philosophy and his alliance with Atiku.
The presidential aide also brought up Amaechi’s earlier remarks regarding Atiku, noting that the former governor had called his principal “unelectable.”
“Amaechi has shown how terribly low he can go to play his politics. Such a man cannot be entrusted, along with his boss, who has a box full of corruption and money-laundering cases, to pilot the affairs of our country.”
In any way, we need not worry. Amaechi had said that his principal, Atiku Abubakar, is unelectable,” he stated.
Onanuga’s remarks coincide with the 2027 general election, in which Atiku and Amaechi are running for president and vise president on the ADC ticket.
