A UK-based Nigerian man has shared his experience on a dating app after a woman he matched with allegedly unmatched him shortly after learning that he was Nigerian.
The man said the incident left him surprised and prompted him to reflect on some of the challenges Nigerians may encounter while dating in the United Kingdom.
Man recounts how Bumble match disappeared
According to the man, he matched with a Black woman on Bumble and began chatting with her.
He said he asked where she was from, and she told him she was Ghanaian but had been born and raised in the UK.
The conversation reportedly continued until she asked about his own background.
Recounting the encounter, the man said:
“As a Nigerian, dating in the UK will humble you.”
He explained that he told the woman he was Nigerian and had only lived in the UK for three years.
According to him, she immediately unmatched him after he disclosed his nationality.
Describing his reaction to the sudden disappearance of the match, he said:
“She unmatched me.”
The man added:
“Bro, like the thing do me like say rapture don happen, the way her contact disappeared.”
He then questioned whether his nationality had played a role in the woman’s decision.
“Nigerians wetin, wetin, oh God.”
The experience has sparked reactions online, with some users discussing possible reasons why people may have preferences or biases when it comes to dating and nationality.
While the woman’s reason for unmatching him remains unknown, the incident has prompted a wider conversation about dating experiences, cultural perceptions and stereotypes faced by Nigerians living abroad.
