Nigerian director and actor Aniebiet Francis has argued that, even in marriage, women should never be coerced into having sex against their will.

The director said in a Facebook post that women are not forced to put up with unsatisfactory sexual encounters, calling such circumstances “sex slavery.”

Francis claims that women who are financially, intellectually, and emotionally independent are more likely to set their own limits, including the freedom to decide when and how they want to be treated during intimate moments.

“As a woman, any sex you do not like constitutes sex slavery. When you are emotionally, intellectually, and financially empowered, you will have the audacity to choose when you want to have sex and how your body should be treated throughout it,” she wrote.

“Even your husband shouldn’t force sex on you when you are not up for it or try new things with your body without your consent and approval.”

Francis is a television personality, actor, and director best recognised for her short films that tackle societal consciousness and humanism.

“Trepidation,” “Loopholes,” “Higher Crime,” and “Final List” are some of her pieces.
