After what she described as a traumatic travel experience that left her stranded in South Africa for more than twenty-four hours, Nigerian actress and on-air personality Simidrey has criticized an airline.
She claimed that the airline’s internal error was the reason she was repeatedly refused boarding despite having a fully paid and confirmed business class ticket. She was allegedly informed that her name was absent from the operating airline’s manifest even though her ticket appeared to be valid in the airline’s system.
She clarified that she was put on several standby flights and waitlists, but she was not permitted to board any of them. When she was later told that there was only one seat available on the subsequent flight, but only in economy, and only if she consented to categorize it as a “voluntary downgrade” and give up her right to reimbursement, the situation reportedly got worse.
Simidrey characterized the demand as coercive, emphasizing that she had paid for business class and was being forced to forfeit her rights in order to return home following protracted delays brought on by the airline.
The actress disclosed that she is a nursing mother attempting to get back to her child, adding to the situation’s emotional impact. She noted that the experience has been emotionally and physically taxing.
She demanded immediate intervention and accountability in an emotional video that was posted online, claiming that the treatment she received went beyond simple annoyance and revealed a concerning lack of accountability, transparency, and care.
