Gunmen who reportedly abd¥cted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for each victim.
It was reported that 15 corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise were abd¥cted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A family member of one of the victims told Daily Trust that the abd¥ctors had contacted the family and communicated their ransom demand.
“One of our daughters who was k!dnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The k!dnappers are requesting N20 million naira,” the family source said.
The development comes after the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abd¥ction of several passengers, including NYSC members, along the route.
The command had earlier disclosed that 11 abd¥cted persons, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the incident, were rescued during a joint operation by security personnel.
However, efforts are reportedly still ongoing to locate and rescue the victims who remain in captivity.
Families of some of the abd¥cted corps members have since appealed to the Federal Government, NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of those still being held by the k!dnappers.
