Cher, an American singer, actress, and TV personality, has been candid about her preference for younger relationships, stating that all of the men in her age group have passed away.
The 77-year-old justified her decision to date younger guys by stating that her demeanour intimidated the older ones. The 38-year-old is currently seeing record executive Alexander “AE” Edwards.
According to Cher, she would rather date men from later generations, who ‘were raised by women like me’ and as a result were never scared of her.
‘And the reason I got with young men is because men my age or older – well, now they’re all dead,’ she joked on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week. ‘But before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me.’
She noted that she is ‘really shy when I’m not working,’ and ‘kinda shy around men,’ lowering the chances of her making the first move.
Cher has a longtime reputation for dating much younger men, such as Rob Camilletti, whom she dated in 1986 when she was 40 and he was 22.
The singer and Alexander first became acquainted at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, and by that November she confirmed their romance.
When she was trolled on social media because of the age gap, she retorted: ‘LOVE DOESN’T KNOW MATH, IT SEES [hearts].’
Shortly afterwards, she appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and spoke about dating a man so much younger than she.
‘Well, on paper it’s kind of ridiculous,’ she admitted: ‘But in real life, we get along great. He’s fabulous and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.’
Cher noted: ‘If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would have never had a date, because older men just didn’t like me all that much, do you know what I mean?’
