5 k!lled as gunmen att@ck forest guards’ office in Kaduna

Gunmen have k!lled five people and injured two others in an hunters’ office in Gidan Waya, located in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The att@ck reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, when the a$sailants stormed the community, opened fire, and caused residents to flee for safety.

A local source said four of those k!lled were members of the hunters’ association, while the fifth victim was a civilian. Following the incident, community members and the district head helped evacuate the victims, with the injured taken to the Anglican Hospital in Gidan Waya for treatment.

The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) Gidan Waya Command confirmed the incident through its intelligence officer, Gaji Ampot. He explained that the att@ckers approached from two different directions and opened fire on personnel who were on duty at the time.

According to him, all but one of the victims were members of the group, while the fifth victim—a student—had been at the office to settle a matter when the attack occurred.

Security operatives under Operation FANSAN YAMMA later launched a manhunt, tracking the suspects towards Jagindi Forest. During the operation, they recovered an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, and a motorcycle after one of the suspects fled.
