“10 roses first…” – Viral video of teacher demanding TikTok gifts before freeing student from punishment sparks reactions

A teacher received backlash online for going live on TikTok during class and demanding virtual gifts before releasing a student from punishment.

A viral clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @AsakyGRN shows a “new age” teacher livestreaming while teaching in a secondary school classroom.

During the session, a male student was allegedly punished and forced to kneel.

Instead of resolving the issue immediately, he instructed her TikTok audience to send 10 roses (a paid virtual gift on TikTok) before he let the student go.

In the video, he said:

That’s your brother kneeling on the ground, and he go dey there. But if you can send 10 roses, I will let him go and sit.”

Surprisingly, viewers complied. Within moments, the roses were sent, and the student was released from his punishment.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism online. Many users questioned the professionalism of combining classroom discipline and social media monetisation.

One commentator wrote, “This one na content creator first, teacher later.” Another added, “Education don turn livestream?”

As teachers increasingly join TikTok for visibility and income, the debate continues: is this creativity or crossing the line?
