Actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has disclosed that she no longer purchases presents for guys she is romantically associated with, citing a traumatic event from her college years.
Makinwa stated that the decision is based on a previous connection with an older man in a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, which included reality star Beauty Tukura.
She claims that she once paid for her then-boyfriend’s birthday celebration with her school expenses, only to find out later that he had cheated on her.
She claimed that the event scarred her and changed the way she gives gifts in romantic relationships ever since.

“I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.
“He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home…there was another woman in his house. That broke me.”
