“We Confessed, Please Forgive Us” – Imo NYSC Kidnap Suspects Admit DSS Statements in Court

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday November 05, 2026, two men standing trial over the abduction of 20 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Imo State have admitted making the confessional statements presented by the Department of State Services (DSS), while appealing to the court for forgiveness.

The defendants, Usman Aliyu and Babangida Aliyu, made the admission on Thursday during the resumed hearing of the case relating to the kidnapping, which reportedly occurred on Independence Day.

Under cross-examination, the first and second defendants confirmed that they made the statements containing their confessions. They also acknowledged placing their thumbprints on the written documents in the presence of their legal counsel.

The written statements and audiovisual recordings of their confessions had earlier been tendered before the court by the DSS as part of the prosecution’s evidence.

During their evidence-in-chief, both defendants had appealed to the court to forgive them and grant their release. They are facing charges bordering on conspiracy, hostage-taking and unlawful possession of firearms.

In a separate but related case heard on the same day, proceedings continued against two other defendants accused of conspiracy, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms.

A prosecution witness identified the two men in court as the individuals who allegedly abducted him for ransom in Imo State on October 4, 2026.

The witness’s identification formed part of the evidence presented by the prosecution as the trial progressed.

At the end of Thursday’s proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice Emeka Orafu, adjourned both cases until November 6, 2026, for continuation of the trials.

The court is expected to resume hearing evidence in both matters on Friday as the proceedings continue.
