A man’s hilarious but telling experience of transferring ₦126,000 instead of ₦12,600 when paying for a dinner at a restaurant has sparked discussions about consumer rights and company practices.
According to the customer, the incident happened during a typical visit to a local restaurant where payment was made by bank transfer.
However, shortly after completing the transaction, the customer discovered that an extra zero was inserted, resulting in a substantial overcharge.
The consumer reported accidentally transferring ₦126,000 instead of ₦12,600 for meals. When the customer discovered the error, he promptly alerted the restaurant and asked a refund for the additional amount.
The situation apparently worsened when the restaurant refused to offer a refund. Instead, staff allegedly offered that the money be held as shop credit for future purchases.
“They told me I would use the change as store credit, that they don’t do refunds,” the customer said.
The consumer was dissatisfied with the arrangement and demanded a refund, moving from formal English to Pidgin to press the point. “Na, once my English changed to pidgin, they refunded me,” the customer added.
The story has sparked emotions online, with many Nigerians finding humour in the situation but also raising worries about refund processes and responsibility in small enterprises.
Some readers said that the conclusion emphasises the significance of aggressiveness when resolving financial conflicts.
