Trump Quietly Dropped His Demand That Saudi Arabia Make Peace With Israel First” — Bobby Ghosh

According to a video posted on MS Now on Wednesday July 22, 2026, foreign affairs commentator Bobby Ghosh said President Trump has quietly dropped a previous condition tying a reported U.S.-Saudi nuclear agreement to Saudi Arabia normalizing relations with Israel.

Ghosh made the comments while explaining the significance of the reported deal during a panel discussion with Leigh Ann Caldwell and Luke Broadwater.

Ghosh said the nuclear agreement was originally meant to serve as an incentive for Saudi Arabia to join the so-called Abraham Accords, a diplomatic framework aimed at normalizing relations between Israel and Arab nations.

He said it now appears Trump is willing to move forward with the nuclear deal without that condition attached, a shift Ghosh described as significant given how the deal was originally framed.

The panel also discussed unresolved questions about the agreement, including whether Saudi Arabia would be subject to international oversight if it begins enriching uranium domestically, a step Ghosh said raises far more serious concerns than simply operating a civilian nuclear power program.

In his words, Bobby Ghosh said, “The United States wanted to link that deal to Saudi Arabia making a diplomatic breakthrough with Israel.

“This was meant to be the sweetener for Saudi Arabia joining the so-called Abraham Accords. It seems that Trump has now de-linked those two things and is willing to go ahead and make this deal.”

Ghosh noted that lawmakers, including some Republicans, are expected to raise concerns about the lack of a normalization requirement, though Congress would need a two-thirds majority to block the president from moving forward with the agreement.
