Tolu Arokodare, a Nigeria striker, reportedly caused Wolverhampton Wanderers to cancel a training session after mounting a protest over his intended transfer to Fiorentina.
The 25-year-old is claimed to have refused to leave the training pitch on Monday, insisting that Wolves allow him to complete his transfer to the Serie A club despite the Premier League side rejecting Fiorentina’s offer.
According to BBC Sport, the Super Eagles attacker sat on the pitch and asked that the club sanction his move to Italy, causing new Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto to end the training session.
The interruption comes after Wolves accepted a separate bid from Turkish club Trabzonspor, despite the Nigerian forward’s preference for a move to Fiorentina.
As a result of the incident, Arokodare will miss Wolves’ pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United on Wednesday as the club prepares for the new Championship season.
The new incident adds to Arokodare’s rocky history since joining Wolves from Belgian club Genk for £24 million last summer.
The striker scored only three Premier League goals in his debut season, as Wolves finished last in the table and were relegated to the Championship.
The club also reprimanded him in April after a fight with academy forward Mateus Mane.
The scenario is an early test for Peixoto, who took over Wolves last month after succeeding Rob Edwards.
The Portuguese coach, who previously worked under Gil Vicente, has been charged with returning Wolves to the Premier League at the first try, but he must first address uncertainties surrounding one of his senior forwards before the new season begins.
Neither the Wolves nor Fiorentina have publicly commented on the purported training ground incident.
