“The reasons why Muslims shouldn’t pray for Murphy Afolabi’s soul” – A Muslim cleric

He highlighted that despite the fact that Afolabi was merely playing a character, his depictions of a herbalist, the offering of sacrifices, and the use of incantations in films are incompatible with Islam and must be taken seriously.

A video of an Islamic preacher arguing against Muslims praying for the soul of deceased Nigerian actor Murphy Afolabi went viral and sparked emotions on social media.

Muslims believe that praying for the dead will make them more popular in the hereafter.

Sheikh Ahmad, a cleric, responded to the passing of the actor Murphy Afolabi, who died on Sunday, May 14, and was buried in accordance with Islamic customs on Monday, May 15. He said that prayers shouldn’t be offered for the late actor because of the circumstances surrounding his life and career before his tragic death.

He claimed that Murphy Afolabi, despite being a Muslim, frequently endorsed traditional religion in his films.

He highlighted that despite the fact that Afolabi was merely playing a character, his depictions of a herbalist, the offering of sacrifices, and the use of incantations in films are incompatible with Islam and must be taken seriously.

The late actor’s coworkers were offended by the cleric’s viewpoint, and they went to the video’s comment area to attack him.

Popular Yoruba actor, Yemi Solade, in response wrote, “Who is this SLAVE? Well…he lacks logic and rationality. I am willing to provide him an orientation about DRAMA & SOCIETY…for FREE.”
