The era of wasting our votes on emotional choices that yield no political capital is over- House of Reps Deputy Speaker warns Igbos against voting for opposition parties come 2027

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Benjamin Kalu, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, warned the South East against what he called the “wastage of votes” on opposition parties. Instead, he urged the region to unite and support the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Saturday, January 10, at a political event, Kalu stated

“Politics is a game of numbers, not sentiments. The era of wasting our votes on emotional choices that yield no political capital is over. A vote cast where it does not contribute to success is an opportunity lost at the negotiation table.”

His remarks coincide with the South East’s Peter Obi preparing to run for president in 2027. After the votes were tallied, Obi, who ran in the 2023 election, finished third.
