“The Consequences Will Be Very Powerful” – Trump Drops Bold Statements on Resuming W@r with Iran

According to a report by Times of Israel, on Monday December 29, 2025, President Donald Trump delivered a cryptic non-answer Monday when questioned whether Israel should strike Hezbollah for refusing disarmament obligations, telling reporters during Benjamin Netanyahu’s Florida visit: “We’re going to see about that.”

Trump characterized Lebanon’s predicament delicately: “The Lebanese government is at a little bit of a disadvantage with Hezbollah.” He labeled the terror organization’s behavior “bad” without specifying consequences.

The Lebanese government approved a U.S. plan requiring Hezbollah’s complete disarmament by year-end in exchange for Israeli withdrawal and hostilities cessation. However, the U.S. proposal ties Hezbollah’s disarmament to phased Israeli withdrawal from five southern hilltops alongside reconstruction aid—otherwise Lebanon forfeits international guarantees securing the ceasefire.

The November 2024 ceasefire built on UN Security Council Resolution 1701 from 2006, which required disarmament of armed militias including Hezbollah and Israeli forces withdrawal. The 2024 agreement required Hezbollah’s retreat beyond the Litani River, about 20 miles from northern Israel.

Officials express concerns about political paralysis possibly slowing Lebanese President Joseph Aoun from pressing Hezbollah’s disarmament as Lebanon prepares for 2026 legislative elections.

On Iran, Trump teased potential military action without confirmation. “Iran may be behaving badly. It hasn’t been confirmed, but if it’s confirmed, they know the consequences will be very powerful.”

Trump insisted during his June 22 address that Iran’s “key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated” after U.S. strikes on Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. However, almost 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% remain publicly unaccounted for, and experts questioned whether destruction extended to underground storage tunnels near Isfahan.

Trump claimed any new Iranian nuclear work occurs at different locations than the June-targeted sites, reiterating openness to bilateral negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program.
