A Texas man has been charged with multiple counts after allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the foot, an injury that ultimately led to the amputation of the woman’s leg below the knee.
The incident took place on August 6, but Joe Astrain, 26, was not arrested until September 16, KABB reported.
An arrest affidavit says that police responded to a call about the shooting and found the 36-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her right ankle and foot. She identified her assailant as Astrain and said they had been in an intimate relationship for more than a month.
Astrain fled the scene, the affidavit said, and police eventually issued a warrant for his arrest after multiple attempts to contact him.
According to the affidavit, the wound caused serious nerve damage to the woman’s foot, leading doctors to amputate it.
Astrain has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and serious bodily injury, felon in possession of a firearm, evading, giving false information, and other counts unrelated to the shooting.
