When a young man’s sincere proposal was rejected and his fiancée slapped him, it changed from a loving gesture into a public disgrace.
The incident, which was posted online by user @cliifforrd, has sparked a range of responses and expressions of sympathy for the man who is distraught.
An anonymous young man can be seen in the now-viral video getting down on one knee and extending a ring in the classic proposal pose.
But rather than accepting with the enthusiasm that was expected, the woman firmly declines the proposal.
Then, to further humiliate him, she walks up to the young man and gives him a forceful smack across the face.
The sudden change in circumstances pushed onlookers into a frenzy, causing whispers and gasps to resound across the area.
In the video, a number of worried bystanders rush to the young man’s side and encourage him to stand up.
The woman quickly leaves the scene, leaving a stunned and perplexed audience in her wake.
