The Federal Government has been given permission by the Supreme Court to file nine new grounds for appeal against the release of pro-Biafra activist Nnamdi Kanu.
Following a motion by the federal government’s attorney, Mister Tijani Gadzali, a five-member panel chaired by Justice John Okoro issued the decision on Thursday, April 27.
These nine new grounds may also be included by the Federal Government in its updated notice of appeal dated October 28, 2022.
Today’s hearing was resumed, and Nnamdi Kanu’s attorney, Mike Ozekhome, gave the court an update on his applications for his client’s release on bail and for transfer to the Kuje Correctional Facility to receive proper medical care due to his deteriorating condition while in detention of the Department of State Services (DSS). He stated that Kanu is seriously ill and needs medical attention he can’t get at Kuje prison.
Further hearing on the case has been adjourned till May 11.
