South Korea’s presidential office, known as the Blue House, has issued a strong condemnation following an attack on a commercial cargo vessel operated by a South Korean shipping company in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global maritime corridor where tensions have recently escalated amid reports of Iranian interference.

Officials confirmed that the vessel suffered damage after an apparent strike in the strategically important waterway, which has long been a critical route for international energy and trade shipments. The attack reportedly resulted in a fire breaking out in the ship’s engine room, causing significant disruption to its operations and placing crew members in immediate danger.
A senior Blue House official, speaking to reporters, described the incident as a serious assault on South Korean commercial interests and maritime safety. The official stressed that the government views the attack as unacceptable and is treating the matter with the highest level of urgency.
Emergency response teams aboard the vessel were able to contain the fire after rapid intervention, preventing further escalation of damage.
