President Bola Tinubu has come under fire from veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo for the nation’s growing insecurity, accusing officials of being out of touch with the struggles that regular Nigerians endure.
The actress made the case in a widely shared film on the internet that while public servants enjoy extensive protection, citizens are nevertheless vulnerable to abductions, assaults, and other acts of violence nationwide.
“You live a great life. You’re driving armored vehicles escorted on both sides by armed security men. Your children are not anywhere around us. And even the ones who are, they’re just as protected. But not us ordinary Nigerians,” she said.
According to Dokubo, persons in positions of power should respond to the suffering of victims and their families with compassion and swift action rather than with analogies or parables.
She emphasised that impacted families require safety and solutions rather than justifications, citing recent school kidnapping cases in Oriire LGA, Oyo State.
Concerned about the suffering of kidnapped children and their families, the actress said the president should take immediate action.
“How can you be giving parables when children are in tears? May no parent go through this fear of knowing that they may be the ones to bury their children.”
“The farmers who lose their farmlands daily do not need your distance. They need empathy and they need action. They need you to be able to protect the land,” she added.
She warned that the problem continues to impact communities across the nation and urged the government to respond to insecurity more forcefully.
