Omoyele Sowore storms Aba, joins protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, has joined an ongoing protest in Aba advocating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

In a video circulating online, Sowore can be seen among other demonstrators during the demonstration, which was held to demand the IPOB leader’s freedom.

The protest follows an earlier declaration by a coalition of Kanu supporters, who organised a demonstration in Aba to demand his release.

The planned event, organised by the Coalition of Lovers of Freedom, has been dubbed the “One Million March” by supporters.

It should be noted that Nnamdi Kanu was convicted of several terrorism-related crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja on November 20, 2025, following a 10-year trial.

The court found him guilty of incitement, membership in a proscribed organisation, and other terrorism charges.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the verdict, imposing life sentences on numerous offences while also issuing additional jail terms on lesser crimes.
