The family of Sarah Danh, a 27-year-old nurse from Texas, is celebrating what they describe as a miraculous recovery after she fell into a life-threatening coma during her honeymoon in Japan.
According to her uncle, Khang Le, Sarah has made remarkable progress just weeks after doctors feared she might never regain consciousness. A recently shared photo showed the newlywed sitting up in her hospital bed and smiling.
Danh reportedly became ill on April 9, 2026, only two days into a honeymoon trip to Tokyo with her husband, Luke Gradl. What initially appeared to be mild sickness later developed into acute liver failure.
After she was medically evacuated back to the United States on April 21, doctors in San Antonio reportedly discovered that she had suffered a stroke that caused severe brain damage, leading to concerns that she might never wake from the coma.
However, following the removal of life support on May 1, Sarah reportedly began making rapid improvements. Family members said she regained the ability to recognize loved ones, communicate, and remember conversations.
Her physical recovery has also reportedly progressed steadily, moving from taking assisted steps to sitting upright on her own. According to her family, she is expected to continue rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston as she works toward further recovery.
