The Independent National Electoral Commission has proclaimed Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate and candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Abia North District, the winner of the election.

Kalu, a two-term governor of Abia state, received 30,805 votes overall to defeat Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who received 15, 175 votes, and Nnamdi Iroh of the Labour Party, who received 27,540 votes.
Senator Kalu was proclaimed the winner by INEC Returning Officer for Abia-North Mr. Chinedu Nnamdi at the Ohafia collation centre.
