For starters, Dr. Tererai Trent is a Zimbabwean-American academic. She is among the most internationally recognized voices for quality education and women’s empowerment. Distinguished as Oprah Winfrey’s “All-Time Favorite Guest,” Tererai is a scholar, humanitarian, motivational speaker, educator, author, and founder of Tererai Trent International
Trent grew up in a cattle-herding family in rural Zimbabwe, then Southern Rhodesia. She had no opportunity to go to school, but, taught herself to read and write from her brother’s schoolbooks.
She was further motivated to pursue her dreams after meeting with Jo Luck, president, and CEO of Heifer International who told her that her dreams were achievable if she believed.
Trent is an adjunct professor in Monitoring & Evaluation in Global Health at Drexel University, School of Public Health. She has vast experience in program and policy evaluation and has worked on five continents for major humanitarian organizations.
Dr. Trent partnered Oprah Winfrey and Save the Children to provide universal access to quality education while also empowering rural communities. Eleven schools are being built in Zimbabwe and education has been improved for over 5,000 children so far.
