Man’s 10-Minute Dispute With Keke Rider Over ₦100 Change Sparks Reactions Online

A Nigerian man identified as @Ossaiovictor1 on X, formerly Twitter, has sparked mixed reactions after recounting a 10-minute encounter with a commercial tricycle operator over ₦100 change.

According to the man, the incident began when the keke rider failed to return his ₦100 balance after a trip.

He explained that the driver attempted to get change from other tricycle operators but was unsuccessful, prolonging the situation.

Meanwhile, other passengers reportedly questioned why the man could not simply forfeit the ₦100 to avoid further delays.

The situation eventually escalated when a female passenger became frustrated and offered to pay the outstanding amount herself.

Recounting the incident, the man wrote that the woman angrily instructed the keke rider to return his money, assuring him that she would cover the amount before they continued their journey.

Nigerians React to the Incident

The post has since attracted mixed reactions, with social media users debating whether the man was justified in insisting on receiving his money or should have considered the inconvenience caused to other passengers.

One user, Thiago, supported the man’s decision, arguing that passengers should not be expected to forfeit their money simply because a commercial driver cannot provide change.

“Omo, I no fit leave my change with any keke man. These people no go consider you if your money no complete,” he wrote.

Another user, Onome, maintained that the man had every right to demand his balance.

“It’s your money though, and you’re entitled to it,” the user stated.

However, Demian criticised the man’s decision to prolong the situation, suggesting that he had deliberately delayed other passengers over the relatively small amount.

“You’re really looking for ways to earn money these days. You intentionally delayed a lot of people,” he commented.

Meanwhile, another user, Bobby Brown, praised the female passenger for stepping in and offered to contribute towards rewarding her for her intervention.

“Send me that woman’s account number, make we raise am for her,” he wrote.

The incident has reignited conversations online about financial responsibility, customer rights and the everyday challenges passengers face when commercial transport operators are unable to provide exact change.
