Lagos staff bus driver accused of causing accident by not stopping for moving train

Mr. Fidet Okhiria, the managing director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has provided an explanation for the accident that happened on the rail track in the Sogunle neighborhood of Lagos today, March 9.

Speaking to journalists, Okhiria claimed that the staff bus driver would not stop for the approaching train. He stated:

“According to the information I gathered at the scene of the incident, they said many cars stopped when they got to the level crossing while the Lagos State Staff Bus driver continued moving, which I don’t know why.

” Maybe the driver thought he could pass before the train got nearer to him. He could not pass, and then the train crushed the bus; that is what we gathered.

“The train was coming from Ijoko to Iddo.”

The NRC MD also urged drivers not to drive past the place where they ought to stop.

Two people perished at the scene, according to the National Emergency Management Agency, and numerous more suffered injuries.
