Nursing mum expresses concern after doctor and pharmacist disagree over type of drug prescribed for her baby by the doctor

She said she had taken her six-month-old baby to the hospital for a checkup. Following the examination, the doctor prescribed a medication and sent her to the pharmacist. On seeing the prescription, the pharmacist noticed the drug was unsafe for an infant and advised her to go back to the doctor. She said she returned to the doctor, who maintained his stance on the drug and sent her back to the pharmacist.

The nursing mother revealed that she photographed the pharmacy slip and forwarded it to her friend, who was alarmed and questioned who would prescribe such a drug for a baby.

“What if the pharmacist had not known what he was doing?” she asked.

She called on hospitals to exercise greater caution when recruiting doctors.
