Israel Adesanya named most profitable UFC fighter

Israel Adesanya, a Nigerian-born New Zealander who currently competes for the UFC, has become the organization’s most lucrative fighter for 2022 after selling more than $1.5 million worth of pay-per-views.

The rematch between Adesanya and Whittaker at UFC 271 in February 2022 generated $600,000 in PPV sales. Israel’s subsequent matchup with Jared Cannonier, which took place in July at UFC 276 had less robust $400,000 sales.

Adesanya’s most recent fight took place in November at UFC 281 in New York, when he faced Alex Pereira. Israel lost the championship belt in that bout, which garnered $600,000 in PPV sales, and was beaten by TKO in the fifth round. He has a record of 23 victories and 2 loses.

The 33-year-old held the middleweight belt for over three years but lost the title in his final fight of the year against kickboxing rival Alex Pereira. ‘The Last Stylebender’ had beaten most of the top contenders in his weight class but came up short against Pereira, as the Brazilian became a UFC champion after just four fights in the promotion.

The Brazilian counterpart had already beaten him twice in kickboxing going into their first meeting in the cage. Pereira won a controversial decision against Adesanya in 2016 and knocked him out in their rematch the following year, which prompted Adesanya to crossover to MMA.
